Review of Flower Mound, Texas

Great value
Star Rating - 11/28/2007
Let me first state that I moved here from California. I was born & raised in Southern CA (my folks are Texans) and lived briefly ('03 - '06) in Northern CA. It goes without saying that nearly everything is cheaper here. Houses are cheaper, groceries, gas, taxes and probably a few more things I can't think of now. Houses range from $150K to the millions, $200K to $300 will net you a pretty decent home with a lot of bells and whistles. There's not much in the way of scenic views. I grew up in the shadow of the San Bernardino Mountains (yeah, the ones that burned), but honestly half the time you couldn't see them because of the smog/haze. Here there are definitely more trees and open spaces. The city of Flower Mound seems to have their act together. There are miles of city trails and tons of parks. The schools are very highly rated and local Marcus High School has a top notch band and football program.

The value is definitely great. There aren't any scenic views, which makes other places pretty exciting to visit (since I came from boring Northern Illinois before this). Saying that "there are miles of city trails and tons of parks" is very exaggerated. Anyone could look on Google maps and see that's simply not true. And the parks that we actually have are tiny for the most part as well. And people on here keep talking about "trails". Are there secret trails in the Flower Mound/Lewisville area that I'm not familiar with (after living around here for 6 years, I should hope not). I think what people keep referring to are the sidewalks from their neighborhoods that run into the tiny parks in our city. These parks typically consist of a child's playset and some grass, all on about one acre. The schools are definitely good for the area, and they are building new ones all the time to accommodate for the population boom, so the schools never seem to be overcrowded. But they are massive. And yes, the Band and Football programs are really great as well (this is Texas, after all).
